I can sum up the past seven days by paraphrasing WC Fields...it wasn't fit for man nor beast...no, make that woman nor doggie. It started off with me warning Mike about a wasp nest in the bushes, as I pointed & accidentally thrust my hand directly into it. YIKES, wasp stings hurt!!
As a longtime follower of The People's Pharmacy, I knew a litany of home remedies off the top of my head...and used them all. I'll never know whether it was covering my hand in ice, rubbing a fresh cut onion over the swelling, swallowing & spraying antihistamine, taping a copper penny over the sting, or applying meat tenderizer + vinegar that did the trick. But within minutes the pain stopped, the swelling was arrested and 48 hours later you never would have known that my hand had recently been a throbbing balloon.
Once I recovered, it was Twinkie's turn. She ate something that induced lots of vomiting. When that finally stopped, so did her appetite. Her saga included four days of refusing food, a couple of vet visits, several medications and a 24 hour stay at the animal hospital hooked up to an IV. We're both better now and look forward to the beginning a new season, Fall, at 10:29pm tonight. Out with the old, in with the new.
This has been a summer filled with jamming in the kitchen. Here's the line-up of flavors so far:
Simply Strawberry, Blueberry Lime, Pineapple Daiquiri, Mango Margarita and Blueberry Pineapple jam plus Mango Chutney, Ginger Pear Chutney and Spicy Pear Butter. The Meyer Lemons are almost ripe so there will be more flavors coming soon.
There is still time to order my BOOB COOKIES, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on October 18th. Just $2 for each delicious 4" cookie, hand decorated with a colorful bra and individually packaged in cello. Help raise funds to find a cure, so we can hang onto all of our body parts. Order now for pick-up in October, or get free delivery with any order over $20. Thanks!!
