I think I'm in charge of my life, but obviously still influenced by old tv shows

It's BABY GOAT SEASON, and not just in my back yard.

Stop by the Palma Sola Farmers Market Sundays from 11-3 and you're apt to enjoy the antics of 5 week old triplet kids who are excited to explore their new world. They love to run, jump and munch on anything that looks yummy.

The ribbons on my sign attracted them, but in the end they preferred chewing wood chips. Bring the family & even young children can gently hug a baby goat. They're very friendly and Glenna can answer all of your questions & fix you up with goat cheese and milk from their Myakka farm. Come early to get the best selection of organic veggies grown right here at the farm.

Aren't these radishes beautiful...& you'll also find Daikons to pair with incredibly sweet carrots & turn into pickles for your Bahn Mi sandwich. Ryan is particularly proud of his wall of lettuces. Everything is just picked...can you say that Publix?

Remember the classic "Seinfeld" episode that had Elaine baking muffins and just selling the tops? Last Sunday I decided to bake Cranberry Corn Muffin Tops, which have been on my radar for a long time. Of course, as a New Yorker & dedicated "Seinfeld" fan, that episode kept playing in my head as I baked. As opposed to Elaine's great dilemma of trying to get rid of all her muffin stumps, I used muffin top pans, so there was nothing extra to dispose of. That proved to be a great disappointment for my dog Twinkie. I loved eating them well toasted with homemade jam slathered on top. This week I'm making a batch featuring fresh blueberries. Details below.

Here's what I'm baking this week:

Morning Glory Muffin  $2
The delicious combination of whole wheat, carrots, nuts, coconut, pineapple, apple and orange in a single muffin. Whole grain + fruit + veggie = perfect & filling for breakfast or a snack anytime.

Created in the 70's, they've become a classic

Blueberry Corn Muffin Tops  $3/pkg
The perfect partner to a quick breakfast alongside cereal, eggs or coffee. Toast it until the outside is crunchy for best flavor. Two muffin tops per package so you can share or not.

Toasted Muffin Top with Cranberry Pear Jam...yummy

Super Bowl XLVIII is just two weeks away

I love this cooler weather, wearing sweaters & jeans, making soup & feeling like it's time for football. The Broncos vs Seahawks should be an exciting game & I'm already thinking about what to eat while I watch the game.

If you're hosting a Super Bowl Party, I have a menu suggestion. It was a such a big hit last year that I've decided to bake large loaves of STROMBOLI ($20/each by advance order only) again. Each loaf makes 6 hearty portions, or you can cut them narrower to feed a crowd. Just reheat in your oven, slice & serve. A bottle of my handmade dipping PIZZA SAUCE is available for $5These are the same stromboli that were such a favorite on my Bonni Bakes Bakery/Cafe menu for 12 years.

Filling choices are:  FLORENTINE (spinach, tomato, onion, garlic, mozzarella, Parmigiano Reggiano);  HAM & CHEESE (Black Forest Ham, provolone, roasted red pepper, mozzarella, whole grain mustard,) or PIZZA (tomato, pepperoni, basil, mozzarella, Parmigiano Reggiano ). I'm bringing this up early because I can only make a limited amount and last year they sold out early. Taking orders now for pick-up on Friday Jan 31 in The Village or Sunday Feb 2 at the Farmers Market.

I love using ingredients obtained at the source. Recently, my son brought me back Cinnamon Sticks, purchased during his recent trip to Sri Lanka & Oman. He's the one with the beard.

This week I'll use them in my Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Bread. The potency of freshly ground spice should give it an extra "oomph". Details below.

Here's what I'm baking this week:

Blueberry Lemon Muffin  $2
Warm up your spirits & taste buds with the ever sunny combination of fresh plump blueberries embraced by a delicate lemon muffin. Sure to make you smile ;-)

Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Bread   $5
A fragrant slicing loaf with Sri Lanka cinnamon both in the dough & a serious vein of it running all the way through; plus a half pound of raisins per loaf. Especially delicious toasted.

Big Cookie   $1.50
Individually wrapped & available in the following flavors:
Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Orange Belgium Dark Chocolate Walnut, Oatmeal Raisin Walnut, Snickerdoodle, Pecan Coconut Belgium Milk Chocolate

Chocolate Orgasm Cookies   $5/pkg
My legendary chocolate delivery system made from melted Belgium Bittersweet chocolate, toasted fresh almonds, chocolate chips & very little flour. Sold in packages because you must have more than one.

Kalamata Olive & Feta Breadstix   $4/pkg
The sophisticated breadstick, at home in any setting. The wonderful taste combo of olives, oregano and Feta cheese make these perfect for snacking or as partner to soup, salad or a cocktail.  Plus they stay crunchy down to their nibs.

New York City Rugelach  $4.50/pkg (6 oz)
First you bite into that traditional delicate cream cheese dough crust, then the flavors of the filling explode in your mouth. Toasted walnuts, homemade jam, raisins, cinnamon & sugar. Nothing else needed.

Homemade Jams & Chutneys   $4/ jar
Cranberry Pear, Mango Chutney, Mango Meyer Lemon, Ginger Pear Chutney, Blueberry Lemon, Pineapple Mango Rum.

Everything always hand-made in small batches with the best ingredients & locally sourced when possible. No artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or fake stuff EVER!!

Seems like the animals have taken over

I've always wanted a goat, and now I have one. No more jealous pangs at the Palma Sola Farmers Market on Sundays when I watch Glenna's goats forage & scamper about. Today I brought Miss Persnickety home from Divine Excess Gallery in The Village and gently introduced her to my dog Twinkie. It only took one sniff on Twink's part to determine Miss P was no threat. Then the goat behavior kicked in and I could barely keep up with her. First she started nibbling on my Meyer Lemon tree, then pounced on top of the table. But not for long.

In a flash she was gulping down my Mexican Petunias...

and tried to climb up the avocado tree. Thank goodness for Twinkie, who knew how to quickly get her attention. Oops!!!

Before long everything quieted down and a tired little Miss P finally took a nap.

Her udder looks very full so it shouldn't be long before I'm rolling in goat milk and goat cheese. It's not so hard being a "City Farmer" Glenna. I also got a cat to keep in my kitchen.

This colorful pussycat is a reminder of my recent trip to Tulum. Of course the white powder that shakes out is only sea salt.  My veggie crops are progressing too.

This year I started several varieties of small tomatoes from seed and am growing them in Earth Boxes without pesticides. My personal favorite is "Chocolate Cherry" (dark ones at the top) along with "Juliet" (elongated mini Romas) and "Lady Bug" round cherry tomatoes. I'm harvesting them now & will sell mixed pints for $3 in VERY LIMITED quantities. Let me know if you're interested.

I planted a couple of Brussels Sprout plants too. I love how the tiny sprouts appear and grow on the stalk, in the armpits of the leaves. Aren't they adorable!! Thanks Ginger Stevenson for growing them in your garden years ago...I never would have known!

FYI -- Thanks to all of you for your encouragement & support these past months while I looked for just the right tenant for my former Bonni Bakes Cafe building. I'm happy to report that I found them, and they will be taking it over on Feb 1st. Sorry I can't share any details at the moment but it will be a terrific addition to The Village of the Arts & a place I know you'll want to visit. More details to come soon.

Here's what I'm baking this week:

Pumpkin Date Nut Muffin  $2
Nothing tastes so rich and satisfying as one of these large muffins, sliced and slathered with cream cheese. For me it's almost a full meal and a guaranteed smile :-)

Classic French Ficelle   $2.50
I love French bread, but mostly I love the ratio of crunchy crust to soft interior. A Ficelle is like a Baguette, but skinnier, so that proportion of crust to interior is greater. Whatever, it's damn yummy.

Black Pepper Parmigiano Breadstix   $4/pkg
Just the thing when you want something alongside that cocktail, soup or salad. Made with imported Reggiano Parmigiano cheese, coarse ground Tellicherry pepper from my trip to India, and fresh oregano from my organic garden. Plus they stay crunchy down to their nibs.

Jewish Apple Cake  $3/slice
My aunt's classic cake is taken to a new level with the addition of organic apples from Palma Sola Farmers Market. Not overly sweet, but moist because it's loaded with chunks of delicious fresh apples. Perfect with tea or coffee; as dessert, or just as a very satisfying snack.

Homemade Jams & Chutneys   $4/ jar
Cranberry Pear, Mango Chutney, Peach Melba, Berry Basket, Blueberry Lemon, Ginger Pear Chutney.

Everything always hand-made in small batches with the best ingredients & locally sourced when possible. No artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or fake stuff EVER!!
